Balloting Has Now Closed

Thank you to all who participated in the balloting process to help guide the selection of environmental improvements for your community!

What Happens Next?

The Tonawanda Community Environmental Benefit Program is considering 25 proposals for projects to improve the Tonawanda community’s environment (see below). The results of the community’s balloting will help guide the State’s final selection of projects to be funded.

What are the Projects Proposed for the Tonawanda Community?

The proposed projects, which you can read about by scrolling down on this page, have been divided into 2 “tiers”:

Tier 1 – Projects requesting grants of up to $25,000

Tier 2 – Projects requesting grants of $25,001 to $250,000

When Will Funded Projects be Announced?

The State will announce funded projects in late 2021.

The Tonawanda Community Environmental Benefit Program is making up to $1 million in grants available for projects that will improve the environment or public health in the Tonawanda community.

The Tonawanda Community Environmental Fund is a program of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the Office of the Attorney General (OAG), and is established from funding obtained as part of a consent decree between the DEC, OAG, and the Tonawanda Coke Corporation regarding various environmental violations at TCC’s former facility in Tonawanda.
